Actions have consequences. The universe responds to you, sooner or later. Sometimes you pay a price. Sometimes you reap the fruits. Depending on what you've done, what you're doing. Have you murdered someone? Ripped a woman off her chastity? Dishonoured your promise? Disrespected your parents? Or have you been righteous, honest, virtuous, faithful? Whatever you have been, be careful. Someone up there is watching. And when He starts accounting for what you have done, your life will begin to change dramatically.

Ahh... amaranthine works of Tulsidas! As true a believer of karma I am, I still feel that the concept of good begets good is flawed at the core. Why is it that we're taught from childhood that we should be good and do good in order to receive good in return? Shouldn't we rather do it because it's the right thing to do?
The Gita says:
tasmat asaktaha satatam, kaaryam karma samakkara
asakta hee akaaran karma, param aapnoti purushaha
It is only when one performs actions as part of his duty without expecting any fruit as a result of those actions, that he attains the supreme state
All said and done, even if we do good only to book a spot in heaven, so be it. As long as that leads to some happiness in the world, why care about the motive? :)
Good should be done because good is the right thing to do.
I think the intention of this doha of Tulsidas was more to alert us of the consequences of the bad. In the end, what we give shall come back to us 10 folds.
Point well taken! Now if only someone would introduce Mr. Tulsidas to the likes of Lalu, Didi, Amma and co. to tell them the 10-fold consequences of their actions!!
